Default Valve Adjustment on 49-53 V8

I am working on an 8BA. Stock engine with Johnson adjustables. It was a good running engine, but before I put it back in the car, I figured I should adjust the valves. I have used .012 Intake and .014 Exhaust, but read in an old Motors Manual that late 49-53 engines should be .014 and .018 respectively. I have 8BA style valve train in a 59AB, set at 12/14, with no problems.

Mac VanPelt's site shows the same specs:

Any reason the later engine should be set up 14/18?

Thanks,

Neal
