Oil on brake linings

I got some oil on some woven brake linings. Does anyone know a good method of removing (extracting) the oil from the linings? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I've used my syphon sprayer and some gas. It worked well.

try a couple of cans of brake kleenz or another brand, sold at parts stores, it all depends on how long the oil has been on the shoes if you have any luck cleaning it off, i bet you will have to replace the shoes, i asume its the rear shoes your talking about, your biggest worry is how did the oil get on the shoes in the first place, worn grease seals is my guess

brake kleen and then hit it with some 80 grit sandpaper then a little more brake kleen

I've cleaned lots of woven shoes over the years.I put them in a tupperware container with some laquer thinner,and close it up.Every couple of days I take them out and blow off a little more goop.When I walk by the container I shake it a half dozen times or so.At some point they will suddenly look new,or be crumbling away.There seems to be no middle ground.I did some AA shoes that looked completely beyond saving,I really only wanted to make them clean enough to strip off without making a big mess.I used a whole gallon of laquer thinner,but when I got done I could read the Raybestos logo printed on the face of the lining.The actual print had been melted by the thinner,but the lining was a different color where the print had been so I could read the letters.I always clean parking brake bands that way too.

Berrymann's B-12 is good for getting oil out of brake linings. Pour some in a shallow pan and let the shoes soak overnite. Blow them out with air and allow them to drie completely before using the brakes.
