I know that if you'd a thunk about it, you'd remember that the Redneck method of removing a hub was the use of a BFH on the end of the axle, so this answer is just for those without benefit of farm boy think.
...So, the farm boy think tells him he better file off the mushroom before trying to use that axle again!
