tom my a has no shims and 2.5 thou clearance don't drive it much so probably ok doesnt burn oil and would like to know what compression test should be

2.5 thousandths clearance is quite a bit. Compression should be 76 and all cylinders should be within 5.

My stock engine has 50 lbs on each cylinder and has good power. .0025" is borderline on what you should do. If you do short local drives, you'll probably get by OK for quite a while. If you want to put on lots of miles and go on trips, it would be best to have new babbit and shims.

BTW with .003" clearance on a newer Ford V8 I can hear the rods.
