To all you guys with 49-51 Merc's. with stock front suspension's. this may sound stupid, but I don't know any other way to put it. what are you using for the grease seal and where are you getting them. I have tried all parts stores, and the seals are obsolete. all the specialty places (like van Pelt's, shoebox central , and Mercury land etc.) have no listing's. I have not been able to even come up with an aftermarket ( CR, Victor, National, etc.) #. the last time I packed the whl. brg's. I am sure I got them from Napa and they were victor seals, however I cannot find my old paper work ( probably lost or misplaced in the last move 7 years ago). anyone out there with an old seal catalog with a listing for these seals ? if I had a # I may be able to find something by inside and outside diam., although if they are really discontinued and are obsolete, any suggestions on what a person is to do, short of changing the spindles and all? any help and suggestions are appreciated. Keep in mind that these seals are not the same as the 49-51 Ford. Thank You.------Jim

Rick55, thank you very much. for some reason I forgot about Mac's, and I did not know about concours parts. I will check them out Thanks again I hope these pan out. I also hope that they are not the original nos seals that are leather, as I got some of them once, (forgot where) and the leather was hard and dried out. I tried to soften them up, but had no luck . I hope that maybe I can return the favor some time. Thanks,------Jim

I work for Napa. I will see if I can get you a part number on Monday. We have some of the older seal catalogs, still around. I never throw away the older catalogs. You just never know what someone may need.

Jim, the Victor number is 49586, for 49 thru 51 Mercury front wheel seals. We no longer sell Victor seals. Our seals are now made by Chicago Rawhide, and there is no cross reference on that number. There is no listing on the computer or the Napa oil seal paper catalog. Perhaps your local Napa store could find you some seals by dimensions of your old seal. Sorry, I tried.

tdlmomowers, thanks for finding that #, it is one that I have been looking for. I was pretty sure It was no longer available. I have found a few other places that list the seal as available. Mac's, and job lot are a couple. I will be calling them on Monday. Thank you very much for taking the time to ck for me, I really appreciate it. If I can ever be of help in any way , let me know, and I will do my best.-------Jim

Contact John Deere parts or a bearing specialty shop such as Timkin. Give them the ID, OD and width; they will hook you up without a P/N.

I find the best way to find parts is by the Ford numbers, get lots of hits and choices when doing a search.
