I don't want to rub it in but, I am partial to Calif. Was out of state in the service and swore to never leave home again. Occasionally when I see pictures or movies of the midwest and east coast I think it would be nice to visit. Then I come to my senses and remember what the air is like. I will be movng to Bend, Or. which is cooler and even drier than Calif. It has been running around 80 temp. and 50 humidity. The evenings have a cool breeze and the temp dorps to 50 at night. Sorry.

It is only 1021 and it is pretty hot already--86F. I work in it everyday.
The heat don't bother me like it bothers some folks. |

Guess I'm running against the wind... I like the cold weather much more than hot. Grew up in Michigan and enjoy the winter activities. When I went in the service I got stationed in South Carolina where it seemed the humidity and temperatures were consistently in the 90s throughout the summer - which seemed to run March - November.
While there I had a nice '70 Satellite convertible to enjoy with the top down - WRONG - too frickin' hot! Sometimes I thought us northern boys would sweat our gotchas off in that climate. I dunno, I can always dress for winter's cold days, but in the sizzling summer heat if I tried undressing for them I'd likely get arrested for breaking some obsenity laws ![]() |

San Jose, CA today's high 74, low 55, no humidity
That's why I live here, hardly use the heater in the winter and rarely use the A/C in the summer, and.....it doesn't rain all that often either |

Took my 39 P/U for a 60 mile lunch run in S.W.Florida yesterday. 95 plus out. Ran at 180 the entire run with Gadgiteers 180 stats. Started on the first turn after lunch. Made two 5 minute stops on the way home and started right up both times. Got home and felt the carb and fuel pump while my friend went in the shop and got the heat gun. Carb was slightly warm and the pump was warmer. Fuel pressure was 2.75 lbs and steady. Fuel pump was 122, carb at fuel bowl 115. With gadgiteer's 1/2" vented carb spacer base was 125 and the intake manifold below the spacer 168 which is cooler with the 5/8" heat riser holes reduced to .325. G.M.

G.M. curious about the vented carb spacers. What do they look like? I made up 3/8" walnut wood spacers for under the three 97's on mine. Haven't run the engine yet with this setup so don't know the effect.

My neighbors think I am nuts but, I haven't turned on the heat or AC in three years. I dress for warmth in the winter and the house doesn't get over 80 in the summer. I can handle it. The all electric utility bill never goes over $60 per month. I think most of that is for the plasma TV.

Roger, Gadgiteers carb spacers are 1/2" thick, made out of phonolic and have vent holes through them for better cooling. Work really good on the 2 39"s I have them on down here in the 95 temps. Had trouble before with the new gas but the carb spacer and the reduceing of the heat riser holes from .625 to .325 made the biggest change. They come with 2 gaskets and 3 longer studs and are made for both the Ford and Stromberg carbs. If interested contact Bob Shewman 1-610-933-6637 or [email protected] G.M.

We were in Rochester last year on a Model T Tour and it got hot enough to melt the tar out of a couple of my coils!

I love the temperatures in the mid to high 90's it gives me a chance to find the heat associated problems and actualy isolate them and find a fix. I forgot to mention how comfortable it was in the cab the other day. With the engine running at 180 the firewall, floor and hood don't get real hot. Going about 60 MPH I said to my friend stick your hand out the window and feel the air. Now stick you hand down by the vent and feel that air. The vent air felt cooler than the window air to the hand. I guess it's a more concentrated flow captured by the vent scoop. G.M.
