Recently lost a fuel cap on dads A. Silly me put it on the running board, went in to pay, came out, got in, started, drove off. It's somewhere on the Mornington Peninsula. So, I buy one from an online auction site, win. Yay me. It arrives, I unpack it, and then look perplexed as there are no threads for it to screw on. Has anyone seen or know of caps that were made without threads. It's no biggy for me, I'll just put it in the lathe and cut a thread.

It looks like the kind that has the clip that is mounted to the center like those used on the 30, 31 cars, but missing the clip.
I have also lost a cap my leaving it laying on the car. I now put it in my back pocket. When I go to sit down it is obvious that I have no put it back in the proper place.

Looks like part of that cap is missing....
The threaded portion appears to be pressed in and also provides a passage to allow the cap to vent.

Whatever you do, make sure the gas tank cap has an unobstructed vent. If not, a vacuum will form in tank as gas is consumed and the gas flow will stop. Be sure the cap's gasket does not obstruct the vent.
