I’ve added a new ride to the garage: a Mustang Mach E all-electric SUV, to go with my 1941 Ford Special Business Coupe and 1962 Galaxie 500XL 406.
I’m loving them all, but the Mach E is easily the most luxurious car I’ve owned. It’s definitely a next-gen, next-century car, and a joy to drive. Talking to other owners, it sounds like they’re almost maintenance-free—just a new set of tires in the first 100k miles. Regenerative braking means I rarely even touch the real brakes on local trips! I work from home, so my weekly miles are low. With a published range of 320 miles, a road trip would require a little planning for charging, but that’s maybe once a year. I didn’t even install a 240v charger at home; the 120v one that came with it is more than enough. And if I ever need a fast charge, there are several high-power chargers within five miles. It may not be everyone’s cup of tea—and that’s totally fine. My wife loves all the latest safety and convenience features, so she’s happy too. Oh, and in the worst case, we’ve still got our trusty 10-year-old Mazda 3 for backup. |

You didnt say if you got the GT or the Rally. Either one of those are luxury -- but with unbelievable speed.

Yes, the GT and the Rally are nice AND fast. I got the Premium, a step up from the base that has all the bells and whistles (but not the power.) As you say, the GT and the Rally are more powerful and exciting; the tradeoff is price, range and kWh efficiency. My car has 2wd without the optional AWD. There are 3 speed settings for accelerator sensitivity, I set mine on the lowest (whisper.) I'm not really about the power. I'm a flathead guy; I don't mind paying big bucks to go slow! ![]() |

I recently went to the Portland Swap and talked to friend's son who is now building an electric '40 pickup. It will be interesting how it turns out.

Check out Neil Young (Buffalo Springfield band member) -- he's created electric vehicles for years. Has a very nice 1959 Lincoln Continental that is electric.
Tom, your friend's son won't be the first. |

I read Mr. Young's book 'Long may you Run'. He drove that electric continental cross country and had pre-arranged a meeting in Detroit with Ford Motor Company executives to discuss electric vehicles. Me, I have a nice yanmar diesel here that I think would be a great donor for a prius or leaf when their battery life makes them cheap. Would it be considered bad form to run a straight pipe up through the hood?
