Default '57 ford fairlane

I bought a 1957 Ford Fairlane 500 with a rebuilt 312 engine, manual three-speed with overdrive....85,000 mi The engine was totally rebuilt in 2000. I have the original rebuilders (permanently closed) parts list. I would like to find out what the cam replacement (p/n 312-8888) really is. this is the p/n written on my parts repair receipt. I cannot find this part number any where. My receipt also says "mild cam, 9.7 x 1 comp....bored out .040. Can anyone tell me what cam I may have in this engine ?

Welcome aboard! My guess is that it could be the cam for the optional supercharger edition of the 312 that was available in '57.

So this is a 292 "punched out" to a 312?

The 312 8888 number comes up on this site for custom cams. Scroll down to the Ford Listings. Unfortunately, it just shows “custom profiles”. But if you’ve got a date or the shop name, maybe they’ve got something in the records.

I don't think it was a 292 punched out. My receipt says "312 engine core" before rebuild.
Thanks for reply. I did hear back from "Competition Cams", and their research said it sounded like a "custom cam" number.

Hey Miker98038.....You are right.....the part number 312-8888 is a legit p/n for "Cam Craft Cams", and that p/n refers to it being a "custom profile". It has to be something other than a original stock grind cam. May see if they can find info....this was rebuild was done in 2000. Thanks to all for the replies.

If you have the need, the cam events can be plotted - https://speed-wiz.com/calculations/engine/camshaft.htm
