IF your flathead has a clean block and radiator, It will sit in traffic ,sit at 50-60 mph on the motorway, tow a caravan and not over heat, yesterday I drove my 34 3w up to our clubs Christmas party 250Klm round trip, air temp 35C, 60 mph on hi way no getting hot ,no worries.

Truth to this statement as well. The importance of starting with a surgically clean block can not be overstated. To this day, the amount of casting sand and crud I've cleaned out of blocks is truly surprising.

There is one thing that I am curious about. I am exclusively an "8BA guy" and have been through 7 or 8 engines. Most of them had minimal debris in the water passages.

Am I just lucky, or did Ford get better at cleaning blocks in the later years. Is this a phenomena mainly seen in the earlier engines?
