I'm out of breath so much now and living in assisted living. Plus, I only post on something that I actually know something about. Can't even walk any more.

I'm sorry to hear those facts. I had assumed with the sale of your cars and parts of late that perhaps old age is creeping up on you. It will come to us all at some point.
My post was not to attack you, I have always respected your knowledge on our old fords, and willingness to provide links and photos etc. to the subject on the thread. But to imply that the barn is sinking because of a slow day , and some recent similar comment by you is just not accurate, or helpful. I'm sure many of the old guys here get tired of answering the same old questions, but many still respond. Imagine when David G gets tired of 32 Ford questions that have been answered repeatedly if folks would search, there will be another drop in activity. We've lost a lot of very special people in the 15 or so years that Ive been here, and I include you on that list, but try to be a little less negative please. Best wishes on your health and happiness for many moons to come |

Ahh Dick,
I am really sorry to hear that your health continues to fail you. I know this has been going on for quite a while. Save up your energy to answer the questions we have as they will continue to come. Take care my friend, Mike PS. I heard one of those round engines and went out and saw an AT-6 fly over my place. Last edited by deuce_roadster; 08-28-2024 at 11:32 PM. |

V8: It greatly saddens me to know that you are not "speed shifting" as before. I pray that you feel a bit better knowing that you really are a treasure trove of knowledge and life experiences which you are always willing to share. Your posts have helped thousands of flathead fans. I always look forward and appreciate what you say. I have posted below the only poem I learned in high school written in 1875 by William Earnest Henley (1849-1903) that I refer to when the road gets rough. The poem is titled INVICTUS. I hope it gives you some comfort.
INVICTUS Out of the night that covers me, Black as the Pit from pole to pole, I thank whatever gods may be For my unconquerable soul. In the fell clutch of circumstance I have not winced nor cried aloud. Under the bludgeonings of chance My head is bloody, but unbowed. Beyond this place of wrath and tears Looms but the Horror of the shade, And yet the menace of the years Finds, and shall find, me unafraid. It matters not how strait the gate, How charged with punishments the scroll, I am the master of my fate: I am the captain of my soul. This poem is in the public domain. About William Ernest Henley William Ernest Henley, born August 23, 1849, was an influential British poet, perhaps best known for his poem “Invictus” (1875). He is the author of A Song of Speed (D. Nutt, 1903), Hawthorn & Lavender with Other Verses (D. Nutt, 1901), and For England’s Sake: Verses and Songs in Time of War (D. Nutt, 1900), among others. He died in Woking, England, on July 11, 1903. About William Ernest Henley Last edited by 19Fordy; 08-29-2024 at 07:34 AM. |

Sending well wishes and comforting prayers for good health....PLUS we need you around for more comprehensive research on these Old V8's like you did on the Mercury rearend/troque tube/frame differences compared to Fords. Have that one saved for posterity my Friend!!! Thank you for all your knowledge and help!! |

Here I was going to ask you for a airplane ride. I don't fly any more and even sold my airplane. I had a 170 taildragger that I love. Now I am a little shaker when I walk, can't see very well. Afraid the Doctors are going to take my Driver License. But I am not going to give up. Hope I have a wrench in my hand when I crook.I am going to take it with me also.

Ya know Coop I agree with you. I am sure this thread went in a direction that you did not intend or want. I was welcomed to this Fordbarn 10 years ago. I would wager that the average age has increased quite a bit and we have lost so many of the folks that contributed their help almost every day. I would mention names but will not for fear of leaving some out. On the swap section it seems that so many good parts do not get sold. We can stick our heads in the sand but the change in interests and the age and amount of new members cannot be denied. I certainly wish otherwise but--------

34fordy: You are 100% correct. Time and Ford folks are passing and the markets are changing. As 'Kube" mentioned in a post a while back when pointing out how the prices of 40's and 50's cars are not what they used to be. Remember when the Model T was king of the road?

Coop,
Sorry to hear about your health. Please find time to continue to post and I hope you begin to improve or stabilize your condition. I guess I'd consider myself a middle aged member here. I'm 53 and albeit lean towards the hot rod side of old Fords, I appreciate them all and have gained so much knowledge and made friendships through the board that I try to do my part to keep it going. |
