Does anyone have part number for door latch assembly-drivers side 2dr sedan? Also would the right rear door latch assembly (1938,39,40 Ford) 4dr
sedan fit a 2dr sedan? Thanks. |

According to Ford Motor company "Hardware and Trimming Supplies 28-38, the Tudoor drivers door latch is 81A-702251. The right hand rear Fordoor is the same.

Would the latch from a 1938,39 or 40 Ford closed 4dr sedan right rear door fit a 1938 Ford Tudor drivers door? Thanks

The early V8 Ford club restoration manual says the latches for a 39 are the same as a 38. Since the 40 bodies are similar, I would guess they are the same.

Karl, Thanks for the update. Do you know if right rear from 4dr would fit left front on a 2dr? The hunt is on!

I suspect TJ is correct, however the part numbers do not help as Ford sold the latches, inside handle mounts, and links as an assembly. The part numbers differ due to the links being different lengths, though some of the latches are the same.

Here are pics of a 35,36 rr door latch,(last 2 pics) and one of a drivers door latch. The connection for the remote arm is riveted instead of a pin for the slotted arm hole. The only difference IMO. To me they will interchange ,RR fordor to left front drivers door. First pic is of the drivers door latch which I borrowed from RichB's post on latch spring replacement.

Thanks for that. Then It's possible that the 38-40 RR sedan will interchange wit the drivers door.
