Walbro Fuel Pump Orientation
I have a Walbro FRB 13-2 12V fuel pump that I will be using as the fuel pump on my '51 Tudor. I believe the pump is normally mounted vertically, however I'd prefer to mount it horizontally on the frame rail near the tank. I called Walbro tech line, spoke to a woman who said she could address any tech question, so I asked if this pump could be mounted horizontally? After a rather long pause she said "should be OK". I really need more confirmation before I mount, plumb and wire based on "should". Pics are attached and I'd like to hear from those more fluid savy than I. Thanks.

You may need to be careful with ethanol gas and that pump.

Re: Walbro Fuel Pump Orientation
I have one installed in my 40 pickup vertically (mine is a puller) and a fuel regulator. I also use Yamalube Ring Free and Fuel Additive every fillup to combat the ethanol in the gas. I have used it for years in all my old cars as it protects the fuel system from the harmful affects of ethanol.
Added about Yamalube: all you need is a cap full for every 10 gallons - boaters use this all the time as their engines sit for long periods of time. I also use this in all my small engine stuff - never a problem.

I’m lucky within a mile of my house is an ethanol free station, I also fill a 5 gallon can for snow blower, lawnmower etc.

You might want to reconsider using that pump as the diaphragm quickly disintigrates using today's gasolene. They will last about a year if you are lucky. Not a good pump. If you do use it, be sure to carry a spare. |

Re: Walbro Fuel Pump Orientation
Here in corn country we have an ethanol production plant little over 10 miles away. We also have ethanol free gas at every station.

I do appreciate any and all input when I post a question. In this case I would be interested in facts that would support the statement that this is "Not a good pump". FWIW I ran this pump in a marine application for years and it never missed a beat.

Re: Walbro Fuel Pump Orientation
I can only say my past experience with WALBRO diaphragm style pumps was that today's modern ethanol gasolene blends caused the diaphragm to fail. Perhaps, they have upgraded their design since the 1990's.
PS: For past 10 years I have been using using a Facet 12V pump. Carb is a Holley 390 on a stock Ford 8BA. It works fine. Fuel line shut off shown in 3rd photo is a radiator petcock. Metal shield that completely covers the fuel pump and filter has been removed for photo. https://www.pegasusautoracing.com/gr...?GroupID=FACET Last edited by 19Fordy; 11-28-2023 at 12:07 PM. |
