I think I remember seeing that the original top bows on my 60A sedan had a material like a very thick felt paper like that used for roofing on top of the wood and under the wire mesh but some were also stirips of scrap top material - better sound deadening?

We now have anti-squeak strips of duck cloth between the rib and wire. Also have added staples to the back rib to reinforce the wire.
