Thank you for your question. The Florida seat belt law only applies to vehicles manufactured since 1968.

The Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles has received your email dated October 7, 2014 regarding safety belts in older vehicles. I will refer you to Florida Statutes regarding your inquiry. For your convenience, a link to Florida Statutes is provided below. You will see in the statute that it states that “The requirements of this section do not apply to motor vehicles that are not required to be equipped with safety belts under federal law.” In the statute, the applicable Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard is given for you to reference.
