Gas tank overflow 1939 pickup-tank

Briefly I came out this afternoon and found gas running from the fill pipe inlet on my 39 pickup.

WE got the fire extinguisher to hand and put a tub under the leak, donned gloves and opened to gas cap.
Gas continued to flow our well above drip rate. I tried an Oklahoma credit card and either I’m too old or ...but no help.

With a bad syphon I was able to force about a gallon of gas overboard(and into my Tahoe.) All is drying out now, except me.

I checked the gas caps on my other 2 ancient cars and no problems

I filled the tank in the spring at a gas station at least a month ago. the truck had duties to do, but I can’t remember if we used it due to wx or scheduling. Anyway the gas station is 5 miles or so away. I did not fill the tank at home. It could be as much as 2-3 months ago. Plus I had to l drive home on the new gas.

Analysis: I have a replacement gauge in my tank which is not adjusted properly as yet. Each time I fill the tank it likes to burp gas everywhere. The tank has been replaced at sometime earlier and someone thought I had a 49 Ford inlet pipe, which I understand likes to burp. Today is hot. I drove the Model A this morning and left the garage open for a couple hours mid day after I got home for cooling of the Model A. I’m betting that let the 39’s gas heated up enough to expand. I’m wondering if the the E10 separated and alcohol vapors gathered in the top of the tank and pushed the liquid gas out?

Clem, the thankful I don’t have a gas water heater in the garage
