Default Visor mounting question....

The machine screws that thread into the nuts inside the windshield pillars of my '31 coupe were broken off LONG ago and someone tack welded the visor to the pillars as a band aid. I want to correct that, but I'm debating on how to approach this. My plan is to use a cutoff wheel to open up each pillar (as little as possible) and remove each ruined nut, then install a new nut and tig weld the cutout back in. Anyone have any thoughts on this? The nuts are completely toast so I don't see any way of using an e-z-out or other method to save them. Anyone know what it looks like inside the pillar?
