Default wiring question on my 51 .f.1truck

hi guys , I,m rewiring my truck wire by wire ,mostly it has gone smoothly but of course very time consuming . electrics is not my thing and I find some of it confusing ........my questions are , undoing the nuts to release the wires on the circuit breaker under the dash a small bolt holding the wire broke,i,v taken out the unit and soldered a connector to the broken bolt , the query I,v got is by doing this I,v had to apply heat and I,m wondering if the heat would make the unit disconnect,if so how would it reconnect ,on modern breakers you push a button to get power back, how would it work on this , its the original unit . also on my truck , above the solenoid to the corner is a relay ,when I took the outer wiring cover off some of the wiring disintergrated and I cant follow where one of the wires went , the relay is not on the wiring diagram I,v got ,I,m assuming it goes to live but not sure , sorry if my description is confusing ,any help would be appreciated , thanks jim.
