Default Retractable questions

How often should you "exercise" the top mechanism to keep it in good running order? I only drive my Skyliner on dry, sunny days when there is no threat of rain, so the top is always down. I do operate it about once a month just to keep the seals lubricated etc. Is that enough? Also, besides lubricating the linkage pivots, is there any other routine maintenance I should be doing? And is there a better lubricant to use than the 10W recommended by the shop manual?

A lot of questions, I know, so thanks in advance for any advice.
