Default Fuel Pump Noise?

On my '47 changed the carb AGAIN and before bringing the idle up to normal, noticed that there was a light knocking, most notable while barely running at low RPM. Now that it has been discovered and several other noise sources have been cured I can now hear the tapping from a few feet away. Broke out the stethoscope and found it to be the Chinese fuel pump or the push rod. Does this lead to damage or failure in the Ford? Sure don't want to get into any more phantom problems while concentrating on other more worthy projects, but depend on this car to go to events while doing as little as possible to maintain. Thanks: Fred A
