On most of our old cars, the problem starts in the TANK . . . have it cleaned . . . thoroughly. If there is corrosion/rust in it . . . then the problem can be such that the tank needs to be replaced.

I brought my 32 tank to a big truck service place that had a "stream wand" that they used to clean the tank out. I've not had a problem with it and it was super gunky (had sat for 50 years - originally with fuel in it).
