There is no reason to grease the spindle. It does not rotate.
The bearing in your hand should be packed with grease, then inserted in the drum and then the grease seal inserted directly after that.
Pack the outer bearing as well.
I place some grease within the cavity of the drum.
Once the drum is placed over the spindle, you will install the outer bearing, the special "washer", the slotted nut and cotter pin.
