another 2 cents worth.....i'm just finishing up my speedster project. i made it 12v. neg ground. i picked up an alternator in a local junk yard...cheaper than those in parts catalogs. i think got it off a gm pickup. at first i was disappointed that it had to have an idiot light to excite the charging system. i also installed a battery cut off switch. i wired the idiot light so it comes on as soon as i close the batt. switch even though the ignition switch is off. at my age i need all the reminders i can get, so the idiot light reminds me to kill the batt. switch and lets me know the alt. is charging when the engine starts.
