Default Marvel shebler sticky float valve

I have a newly rebuilt marvel shebler carb for my 1929 model a Fordor. The float valve sticks. It’s the type that is gravity operated (no spring or anything connecting it to the float). It has a rubber tip that gets stuck continuously shutting off the fuel and stalling the car. I can rap the side of the carb to dislodge it but you can’t do that while you’re drive obviously. Anyone that has one of these figure out how to fix this issue? I’ve heard of using mineral spirits on the rubber to remove the tackiness of the rubber, but that didn’t work.
