Deck lid Handle

I have a 1930 Model A coupe with a trunk, not a rumble seat. I would like to know which way the handle is supposed to point when the trunk is closed and latched,-- handle pointing down, or handle pointing up. I would also like to know who makes the best quality replacement locking handle and matching latch mechanism. The reason I ask these questions is that no matter which way I install the handle I can not get the trunk to lock. the keys turn in the handle, but it does not lock the handle and keep from opening the trunk. unless I am missing something or have a mis match of parts, I can not see any way the combination I have will lock. It looks as if the tang that moves when the key is rotated is to short and will not engage in the latch. It also looks as if it is not at the same height as the notch in the latch. this was all on the car when I bought the car. I don't know for sure the maker of the latch or the handle, but the rubber pad the handle mounts on says " Vintique". does anyone have any suggestions, and does any one have a recommendation as to wher I can buy the correct latch and handle assembly? Could anyone aso tell me if the '28-29 latch and handle are the same as the '30-31 latch and handle? If they are different could I have a mis-match going on?
