The only times I experienced "vapor lock" was when one of the aforenoted conditions occurred. (Timing/ignition issues, engine heat, 6 volt battery or carb adjustment).
"Purists" seem to be plagued with vapor lock but the price you pay, I guess. Please believe me I'm not throwing rocks at "purists".
I made 1 trip to the Bonneville Salt flats many years ago and I decided then and there I would rather drive my car 70 mph in 115 degree heat then sit in a parking lot somewheres waiting for the engine to get cool enough to start.
That trip started my upgrades.
1st up was the conversion to 12 volts, an fuel pump with a factory Ford "bump switch" and a resin carb spacer. Pretty much solved the issue.
