Default Question - 1936 Water Pump replacement, in car?

I am looking at replacing water pumps in my 1936 Sedan with 21 stud engine and in head water pumps.

Does anyone have a step by step guide, or experience they can share? I have looked through my literature, (not an extensive collection), and this procedure is not outlined. I also searched this forum and was not able to locate this information.

Looking at the vehicle the things I notice:
  1. Bolts are just far enough behind pulley so that one cannot get a socket wrench on them.
  2. Clearance/access is limited and awkward, so even getting a box end wrench solidly on the lower bolt is questionable. (Is this just the water pump casting on the car? I have a replacement on my workbench and don't see a clearance problem getting the wrench on that bolt.)
  3. Inside upper bolt is in a space, (between radiator hose and spark plug wire metal loom), where there is little to no space to turn the wrench.

So, what all needs to be removed to get sufficient space to remove bolts? Or, is there a trick or special tool I am unaware of?

Any tips or tricks? I hate the ah-ha moments that occur after the fact, (and after bloody knuckles). Hoping to gain valuable knowledge from this group.

I've done the later type flathead water pump, (lowers that are also motor mount), and thought, this should be easy, no jacking up engine and no rusted bolt in the middle of the water pump neck. Was I kidding myself?

Thanks for any help and for sharing of knowledge and experience.
