30-31 Open Car lower Windshield Stanchions

Does anyone have experience using repro lower windshield stanchions for a 30-31 open car? Is there only one manufacturer? How do they fit? It seems that originals are hard to come by. I have more than one set of brass ones that have been broken and welded. I would like to use steel ones if they can be easily made to fit accurately. I appreciate comments.
