Default Further to my solenoid post ...gremlins.

Hi guys ,on the subject of my recent post on 12 volt with 6 volt solenoid problems. I received my 12 volt solenoid and fitted it on with a new two pole live starter button ,I wired the starter button to work when the ignition is switched on only ,carefully rigged it up and it spun over nicely, turned it off and did it again ...great. I did a few other jobs in the workshop and decided to see if it would turn over using a remote starter switch from under the hood,I connected it from the live lead to the starter lead and it just made a sound elsewhere ,I went inside the car and turned on the ignition and pressed the button and the same sound,I turned the ignition off and the starter motor started spinning ...I ran round to the battery with the S motor still spinning and luckily I,v got a quick release live cable to the battery and with a rag in my hand pulled it off with it spitting Sparks and smoke...scary,what's that all about, bit frightened to touch it till I know the problem....any ideas what I,v done wrong and what can I do to get it back to normal, never heard of this before.?
Any advice would be appreciated, thanks. Jim.
