Default Hub bolts/Wheel studs - when to replace?

I have to replace two rear wheel studs/hub bolts due to their threads being toast. I cannot get proper tension on the lug nuts without them slipping.

Naturally this has me thinking (worrying) about the rest. I have visually inspected each one and come to the conclusion that it's pretty hard to tell when the threads have "crossed that line", as there is a range of presentations!

Brattons website suggests a wheel lug nut torque of 50-55 foot pounds. Should I just use the torque wrench at that setting and assume that the stud is OK if I get no slippage?

How would you make this decision?
