The Ace Mechanic is back
So the fuel ran on the floor when I opened the tank valve telling me that it wasn't a hung up gross valve and I toddled off for my nap. With renewed strength and a fresh mind, plus Les's books, I diligently and deftly attacked my problem. Put new points in the distributor and re-timed for I had altered the point setting from .022 to .018. Replaced the dist. cam while I was in there. Checked three coils, non met the numbers in Les's blue book but took the one that appeared the newest and had the highest ohm reading from core to connections and installed that. Ran like a three legged dog with no acceleration. So as a last resort I went against all odds with a fuel problem and abandoned the pursuit of an electrical malfunction. I exchanged the carburetor with another from my known running fleet. Hit the starter and it purrs like a Chinese Rolex, the better ones. Now I'm on the right track and have another Ace Carburetor mechanic picking up the take off tomorrow. I'll make a call to the radiator shop and after exchanging big $$$, be on the road to help a friend. This time I might even get there. But even Snoopy gets shot down once in a while, "Curse you Red Baron."
