Smile Manually cranking 1940 Ford V8 /engine in car?

Removed my crank mounted fan. Purchased 1 3/8" 6 point socket to try to turn ratchet nut. Socket OD to big to fit on ratchet nut? OK how do you turn over the engine manually with the spark plugs removed when it is in the car? Is a ratchet tool out there?????
