Default Running boards

What do you guys use to make your running board mats black? I have a '30 town sedan with the diamond pattern on the running boards and I want them to be black instead of the ugly gray color. I can't use tire black products as they will made the boards slippery. I remember when we were kids, a hundred years ago, they used to mix black paint and gasoline to paint on tires. There must be a better solution than that. What are some suggestions? Is there a black, non-skid product out there?
