Default quick heater question

I finally got my heater in and plumbed (46 super) the heater is the three
door with defroster. Its real nice, even the wires are like new. The wires
were not taken off its switch. OK one wire has a round terminal which I
put to ground - on the switch reo-stat one male spade in the middle I suspect
is + power so that's what I did. My question is the terminology ? why in the
world is the switch marked indirect & direct & whats that mean. As it is
(my wiring) turn counter clock wise thats heat (indirect) turn it clockwise
that's defrost (direct) is that right? Hard to believe they were using stupid
labels like new cars. Too hard to mark it HEAT & DEFROSTER in red !!!!
Just want to know what I did is correct. Also the car never had a heater.
