Default historical question: who was "Abell" of the early starter drive?

we all know the Company resisted buying patented units for the cars, out of pride, ego, cost, etc., and maybe the fact that GM owned part of Bendix.

does anyone know where the "Abell" name comes from? Perhaps just a scam to avoid the Bendix patents?
