Default muffler selection

I really need to draw on someones experience. I have to replace my muffler as an intermittent ignition problem caused it to blow out. It is a stock style custom single exhaust welded in. I want to go back with muffler that I can replace without welding. I would like a mellow tone slightly louder than stock that I can hear without a drone. The specs on the one I am replacing are:
factory sound with 24" over all, oval 5x9 with an 18" body 2.25" inlet 2.25" outlet both offset. My pipes inlet and outlet are 2" so someone welded the gap between pipes
Where/what brand/replacement/# do you guys recommend? Do I buy a muffler with a 2" inlet and outlet and buy 2 adapters and 4 clamps? The only one I have found so far is a Walker generic 17844. Forgot to post, the car is a 59 Edsel with the 361v8.

Any advice would be appreciated.
