Question Need some motor installation help

We tried to install the motor in our '35 pickup today. Everything was going smoothly until we had it almost all the way down and the oil pan touched the front cross member. We needed to get the engine back about 3/8 of an inch but the U joint bells were bottomed out against each other and the engine wouldn't go back any further. There isn't any play in the rear end so we couldn't move it back.
Here is a pic of the transmission mount. Checking in the books and everything looks right to me.
Everything seemed to need to go back about the same amount so maybe it is the rear end??
For clarification, this is a 59AB going in a '35 pickup

Thanks for any help,
Chris
