Default 1939-48 Trans. Gear Condition Question

I have a 1939-48 transmission main drive gear and second speed gear. The synchronizer teeth on both gears are worn/chipped.

Questions:
1) How does the worn/chip gear issue affect the operation of the transmission?
2) How bad can the wear/chip be before it affects the operation?

Thanks
