Default 8BA Dwell

Stock 8RT. The books says 58-63 degrees of dwell. I am getting about 48 degrees at idle with about a .015 to .016 point gap. Initial timing with the vac plugged is set with the pointer on the raised dot on the crankshaft pulley, What's up ? Dwell/Tach is an old timer. Thank you.

If you re-read the book, that '48-'53 8BA spec is in percent, not degrees. 58-63 percent of 45 degrees (1/8th of 360 distributor rotation) equals 26.1-28.3 degrees, or 27 target degrees dwell, the spec most single point Ford V8s used up through the early '70s. FYI, the raised dot on the 8BA crank pulley is 2 degrees BTDC.
