Default Found in Pan, what is it?

I found this in my oil pan while cleaning out the sludge. I hope if fell in and didn't fall off something inside the engine. Anyone know where it might have come from?
Getting ready to put the pan back on and I don't see anything obvious missing.
Thanks in advance for the help!
Larry

I'm wondering if it was attached to the bottom of a connecting rod cap like a scoop for more oil to get to the bearing,I checked a rod,it would fit,but would it clamp on,just a thought.

Part of Han Solo's carbonite block chipped off and fell to earth from a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away?

Thanks for the guidance. I assumed it wasn't from any internal engine part, but thought I'd ask the experts. It looks like it was intended to "clip" around something. It's in the shape of a D and appears spring loaded. I looked at the current filler cap, and can't see where it could have come from that. Maybe an older cap. At least it was in the bottom of the pan and didn't cause any damage.

Could it be a clamp for a small hose, bent a bit out of shape?
