The "Baby" Lincoln is the same as the Merc, '49 - '51 from the cowl back, so the rear should fit.

The 49-51 Mercury Overhaul Manual shows that the rear tread width width for both the Lincoln and the Mercury was 60 inches. The Lincoln rims were 15 x 6 and the Merc rims were 15 x 5 1/2. So, it appears that the Lincoln rims had a deeper backspacing in order to end up with the same tread width as the Merc even though the Lincoln came with wider tires. Hence, the rear ends total widths are both the same, I think.
The Merc Manual says the following:

This makes me wonder if the words "axle assembly" mean the same as what we consider to be the rear end. The next 2 photos are of a 51 Merc rear.
Also, here's a HAMBER'S response. I agree that the Baby Lincoln rear should fit.

The Lincolns used the Dana 53 rear axle assembly that had a 4500 lb capacity over the Dana 44s 3500 lb capacity. The Dana 53 is a bastard step child and very hard to find parts for. Willys & Kaizer used them but not many others. Lincoln cars used them clear up into the 1960s but I don't know if there are many differences between year models or not.

Thanks rotorwrench. So even if the Lincoln rear is the same width it doesn't seem like a good choice.

I did some searches for parts on the dana 53 and struck out so I think I would pass unless I was trying to restore an old Lincoln. The only part I could come up with was the gasket for the cover. The Dana 44 is way more better to find parts for. The Dana 53 might be OK and last a long time if it was in good condition. If condition is questionable then I'd stay away.

if the rear is from a auto trans the ratio is 3.31 is a strong unit

The Dana 41 was only used for a few years and hard parts are hard to source now. THe Dana 44 was used many more years & by many more manufacturers and most parts are still available.
