Default K. R. Wilson engine stand...for A's

What does a KR Wilson engine stand look like for the 4 cylinder
engines? I've used the regular engine stands for years on A's
and B's....from the back(no flywheel housing). I'm just interested
in the head of the stand......to see what they look like.

Thanks, Dudley

Here is the stand...

Note the two bolts on the water inlet, and the two arms which contact the oil pan rim. I believe these are simply "pins" with the majority loading of the support spyder being taken by the water inlet area.

AC&R used to make a similar spyder rig which fits the 2" pipe used on today's aftermarket "engine stands" (sold by Harbor Freight and others)

Today these may be available from Berts having learned earlier this a.m. that Berts has bought up AC&R tooling and production.

The rig/setup has much to recommend for setting up of the engine. Access is quite good to the valve chamber, and flipping the motor can be done for access to either cylinders or connecting rods.

Downside for any of these is that it won't take a transmission. And it is quite a loading on a small area at the water pump inlet (where most of the loading occurs.) A fully dressed out engine including doo-dads and head might be the straw that breaks the camel's back?

Bill Stipe also makes an engine stand adapter for the Model A engine, I think Bert's also sells his as well as the AC&R version.

The KRW Stand shown is missing the Large base. There is a KRW jig to mount a transmissoin using the drain plug hole. (transmission only)

I use a $40 harbor freight stand. it holds the Motor + Trans together.
A KRW stand is Very heavy and $$$
Also have a Weaver stand,Fits T & A

His other pix at the site show the sub-base. Not included in the price apparently.

I use a harbor freight stand and a custom made plate on a 2" pipe to hold the engine block at the flywheel end.

The standard plate (comes with the HF stand) and standoffs can be used on the front end (three catch easily and the fourth is "security.")

Still, access to something or another is impeded by a front/back support. Not so bad to the back.

Are they "pins" or bolts that fit in the pan rail?

Stipe moved to SC (?) . I am having trouble getting ahold of him. Maybe due to moving hassle/whatever. You/anyone have current info on getting to him and/or buying his wares ?

Bill is not showing an engine support (spyder) on his website.

See http://specialtymotorcams.com/pages/products.html

And see https://parts.modelastore.com/show_Product.asp?ID=3475 for Bert's version of the support/spyder.

I just talked to him last week when I bought some other parts from him. 920-467-2895

Here's a link to the page that describes the engine stand adapter: The picture on his page is rather small, picture below is one he made that I bought (from Berts).

http://www.stipemachine.com/index_files/page0012.htm

This adapter will fit Model A-B and Model T engines. It bolts to the pan rail and water outlet. Adapters will fit most engine stands. It has a 2 3/8 diameter tube.

They are small bolts, with a T handle that turn the bolt, and the end of the bolt is turned smaller to start in the bolt hole.

They are not there to carry any kind of a load.

I have had about 30 Wilson motor stands over the years.

I have 4 in the shop right now we have used for 40 some years, and I have never used or had a need for the two little bolts.

The two water jacket bolts do the job, even with a 400 pound Model T motor.

The base"s that were made for them came in two styles, and you could get a set of Wilson wheels and make your own using a large square plate, I don't remember how thick.

The stand's were bolted to the floor.

The rollor base's were always extra, as they did not come with motor stand unless you paid for them.

Thanks,...I appreciate the info and photos.

I have 4 Crower stands that I work off of for 40 plus years.
The only thing I like about KRW set-up is for the flywheel housing
and the flywheel itself....indicating / sweeping. Making a KRW type
head would be no problem..... also, using bolts instead of pins on the
pan rail.
