The gauge moves OK but the reading is off because I think the rod that connects the float to the number fitting is bent. When full all I get is a 3/4 reading and it shows between 1/4 and empty with 2-3" of gas still in the tank.
Will bending the rod fix this ? Anyone done this and what is your process ? Be pleased to get some help. Bill |

Just bend the rod. I cut a groove wide enough to get around the rod in a piece of 3/4" flat steel about 1" from one end. I then removed the fire screen, pulled the rod up with a piece of coat hanger, held it firmly against the top of the tank, and gently coaxed the rod into a lower position with the flat steel placed a bit in front of the coat hanger. This is a trial and error procedure, and may take a few tries to get it right.

Steve was just a little faster than I was. That video is a good explanation.
