The guy next block just bought a 29 A coupe.
It has a Marvel carb, but no air filter. Did they come without one? CZ |

Without a good flow of air the engine will not run as well as it could. Filters that are oily dirty, or just too small can give problems with the balance of the carb.

Mike V is right on. Too much filter will cause loss of power and cause the spark plugs to run black and sooty. Henry didn't think that it needed a filter. I don't run a filter on any of mine.

On one of my Model As, I have a K&N air filter mounted under the carburetor. So far, no problems. It also has an Afordable oil filter. I'm hoping this engine will last a long time.

I've ruined a few motorcycle engines by running them without filters. Ring and land wear gets out of hand. CZ |

Based on other threads here, I replaced my air maze filter with this one from eBay. http://www.ebay.com/itm/The-Original...c834ed&vxp=mtr
The car runs much better and if there is gas dripping out of the carb, it doesn't soak the filter. I have not checked my plugs since, but there has not been one thing that I have done to my car to make it run better than to swap out the air maze for this. Many folks will say that you don't need an air filter, but I prefer one, even though there is probably not as much dust in the air now as there was when the A was new. |
