vermin and model A's

I have heard about using BOUNCE and such items, but I am wondering about the effectiveness of those Ultra-Sonic Devices in the garage that emit a tone above the human range that are supposed to chase vermin.
Has anyone had good or bad luck with these things?

I assume you are referring to mice or rats (vermin). I have tried Bounce (with the deodorant in it - not unscented) and a mouse made a nice smelling nest out of one or two sheets! Someone earlier on Fordbarn said that the Bounce makers changed the formula because arsonists were using the original Bounce to start fires, as it didn't leave any residue behind. I don't know if this is true or not, but Bounce sure didn't work for me two or three years ago when I tried it in one of my A's. I also have an ultrasonic device in the garage, and there were mice in the garage with it working. I found a way that works for me to prevent mice from coming into the garage. It is to use good old mothballs. What I do is take a disposable pie plate with the plastic lid and drill a bunch of 1/4" hole in the plastic so some of the smell can escape and place the pie pans near the doors where the mice used to enter. The pie pans allow the mothball to not disappear near as quickly as just putting them out in the open. I have not had mice in the garage for a couple of year as I also have some poison bait around that is untouched. If you do a search on Fordbarn on "mice", there a couple good strings concerning mice control. Hope this helps.

I have no ultrasonic devices and have also not seen a mouse inside the house in at least 15 years........

A mouse can squeeze through a 3/4" diameter hole.

Not so much if there is a wire passing through the hole.

I've seen 1" holes I drilled in 1981 with one romex 14-2 cable and in making more room the mice had chewed the wire to the point where one of the conductors was exposed. (Had to replace the entire run - fortunately this a rework/expansion.) Hence my resolve since then to use 3/4" holes for wiring when possible.

We don't talk much about the Model A seats that were trashed by the mice - and these kept inside a 3/4" plywood hinge lid box for protection. Those mice guys had a VERY good winter that year.

Ah yes the old vermin problem. Cars parked in the driveway Nissan Maxima, something ate the main wiring harness in half, not once but twice. Also dined on several vacuum hoses.

Ate 10 wires in half on my old Nissan P/U.

Ate 2 wires off a sensor on my 08 Camry.

If they touch my Tundra there will be all out war!!

They also decided to build a housing area under the dash of my 80 Corvette which was in a garage on the property. They have not touched my A or 64 Impala conv also garaged. I have never seen one in the house. I tried traps, mothballs, and finally got a ultrasonic pest control device which covers the driveway and yard, I have not seen any squirrels, dogs, cats, birds or anything else since. I suspect one day something will eat the ultrasonic wires too!!

In addition to my previous it has been mentioned that these could be foreign mice or squirrels since they only eat the wiring in my Japanese cars/trucks. Missing home cooking

Sonic traps are next to useless. Set them up in my attic and came back to a major mice infestation. The only trap that works is a snap type trap or glue traps but the glue ones are quite inhumane in my opinion as to the slow death issue...

I've been putting a bar of Irish Spring soap in each car. It SEEMS to work and smells better then moth balls.

Unfortunately, sometimes she misses and there are peripheral casualties.

I have had great results with them. I had mice getting in my garage and put the unit right in their path. No more mice!
