Remember "TUFFY" screwdrivers with a fold out handle for extra leverage? Do they still make them? Bill W.

heres two mint screwdrivers
the preservative is fairly thin
its not an opaque finish
i would think a thin coat of flat black and then when dry rub it with a paper towel
or maybe paint it with some black stain and wipe it off

There's a product called WOODLIFE CREOCOAT Black Wood Preservative, which might be good for floorboards and screwdriver handles.

Anyone tried it?

I was looking in my old desk ---I found a pair of keys-- A1449 --with a tag that says 1928 Tudor

i have an original toolkit that was never used, it is V8 era, but the screwdriver looks like even the metal was dipped in the preservative, it still has the somewhat tacky feel ---like the preservative was more tar than paint

I was just getting ready to post this pic of two screwdrivers I bought on Sunday at a local flea. They were in a can marked 3 for $1. ( I just bought the two). One is pretty nice, the other has a sliver out of the wooden handle. I never really followed tools before....are these Model A ? Don't mean to hijack the post, but it's too similar to start a new thread. Thanks

The bottom one looks identical to one I picked up at Hershey last year (cost me more than $1) and was told it was a Model A screwdriver. Ford later put a "B" near the tip for cars '32 and later. The top one could be as well just a little more worn.

One digit off! Wouldn't A1449 be too early for a 1928 model year?

Here is a near NOS screw driver. The handle is black and you can see the grain through it. There is a slight sheen to it.

Deluxe Delivery, if the steel blade shaft passes entirely thru the handle, odds are they are model a. I picked mine up at a local chuch flea market, asked the seller (dude in his 90's) how much, told me a buck, gave him ten and told him to keep the change. Must have touched him, he welled up and told me that this was the last time he was doing the market and had almost not come, cause poeple 'just weren't spending money'. He then had a huge smile, as did I. Have been to many more flea markets there and have never seen him again.

Thanks, Steve,
Yes, it goes all the way through, but the blade is a little narrower than the better one. Hey, I swear I can sniff A parts out of the ground if I have to ! Tools are particularly plentiful at these little fleas. It may be a valve stem tin, a tire pump, or a wrench or a gas cap, but I can manage to scrounge some trinket every week. Keeps the excitement level up.....wow, how pathetic is that ??LOL Good of you to take care of the old dude. It'l come right back atcha !

Missng your chance, Steve, ladies can sniff better, get her to help you. Pat could tell me what parts of the cars I had worked on, even before the Rat Terrier had a chance to"snitch" on me! Bill W.

I had wondered about that, I had always presume it stood for Barcalo, one of the tool manufacturers.

The B is for Barcalo according to articles I've read...single supplier makes sense as it is not at all common.

I was down at my 87 year old Mother's house today, and she wanted me to move something. I needed a screwdriver, so I got one out of the "junk drawer" in the kitchen. As I was using it, I looked a little closer at it,and noticed it was a Model A screwdriver I might not have recognized it before, but I had been reading this thread the day before, and the images of the screwdriver stuck in my mind.

Bill you are so right, they can smell better, but usually mine just tells me of the 'bad' smells I bring about....
