Thanks! I'm relieved that you explained 'it' ! Geeze, I was thinking that the RUST on the engine various areas was mabe gold !
Sure would be informative to hear what other high point restorers see here worth 50K. If rust seen on the engine, can you just imagine what you would/might find underneath

I know mine is not worth anywhere near that kind of coin, but........

Three years ago, we were on club tour of the Parliament building in Ottawa.

While unpacking, a voice said, "Would you consider selling your car?"

Since I had not had the vehicle long and had just invested quite a bit in paint, I turned around to the well dressed man, told him of my investment and that I wasn't interested in selling.

He asked, "Would you take $50,000 for it?

Thinking he was not serious, I declined, and he handed me his card saying, "If you change your mind, call me?

I put the card in my pocket. Reading it later, it indicated that he was a Senator.

Since we have two members of Parliament in our club, I inquired of this Senator and told them of his offer. They knew him and said, "He's got it, and if he offered it, he meant it."

Later, I relayed this story to my bodyman, and he went on to say,
"Sounds like the meeting of two fools. Him for offering that kind of money; You for not accepting it."

To this day, I cannot disagree with his assessment.

The Barrett-Jackson car might've brought more if they got rid of the stone guard....

It's simply a matter of right place, right time and "worth" albeit temporary can skyrocket. Looking at pics of the auction car, I wouldn't own it unless there was potential for profit. Yours on the other hand.....

This type of thing is hard on the hobby. Everyone will be afraid to sell their roadster for less than $48,000.00, now.

Maybe it's easy for me to say since my car is just a driver and I've never had a tempting offere, but my response to your body man is, " bullshit."
Money isn't everything. You earn money to be able to enjoy owning and driving a car like this. At some point a guy has to stop pursuing dollars and just enjoy life. I hope you are enjoying your car. It's easier than enjoying a bank account. JMHO

Peace,
Brian

And here I thought chrome spokes and whitewalls didn't add to an A.

The car will need to be docked a few points for having the wrong starter end plate.

Yes, I enjoy it immensely and agree completely with your viewpoint.

However, if something should ever happen that it would be come necessary, (health, financial ruin, etc.), I have an idea of which FB'r I would let know first, as I know it would be "preserved" and appreciated. And that's important to me.

Just don't start throwing dirt on me, yet.

The 2-tone dist body & cap as well as generic coil must add value too!If some one has deep pockets then it dont matter to them if they paid double its value.

I like to think my 31 roadster is worth 20K, but when people ask, I tell them it's worth at least 50K to me, because I don't want to sell it.

Have you stopped to comtemplate that the reason it didn't just bring $25K was because there was more than one person who felt it had a value of over $45K? Otherwise it would have never been bid that high.

Nice car but the price is way off. I'm not a purist but I found 12 things not correct just by looking at the photos and I'm new to the hobby. The person who bought it must not care that it is not a fine point car and that's ok if that's what he wanted. He may not even know what is original is what is not or care. Some times we just fall in love at first sight and don't care what we pay for something. I have seen other cars that I thought were awful go for a lot of money at auction. Just goes to show that one mans dream is another mans nightmare.

Thats my thought. Sales like that only help to drive the hobbist out because he can't afford anything anymore. Thats close to 100 times what it sold for brand new.
