Ok need some advice bin 19 months apart now time to put back together. Question is is it easer to put inner fender to frame first our to the fender? Then put to the put all together at one time ? Haveing to do this alone finding its a bugger of a jop.

I've been taking the front fenders off & putting 'em back on several times now for mock up on my '36. I found it easier to bolt the inner panels to the fenders and put them on as an assembly. Of course, I may be wrong and if there's a better way, I'm willing to learn. I'll check back and see how the more experienced builders do it.

I struggled with this for quite some time last year, finally getting everything to line up half decent. In my case, I don't think it will ever be perfect. There were many helpful suggestions posted to my query on the forum, which included the step by step instructions I have pasted in below. I hope this helps.

What I did was completely assemble the fender, inner fender, horn opening panel and (if your using them the SS molding) to the headlite stand. I guess that's all the parts for one side of the car. My running boards where on the car. With 2 guys to lift and hold the assembly, we hung it by attaching the headlight stand to the frame and to the running board. All this was with loose bolts. After both side where attached loosely, I hung the grill from the two ears on the radiator. I made a tool to line up the holes between all the jigsaw pieces. I took a large nylon handle off a scrub brush and tapered it from about 1/4 inch to 1/2 inch. The nylon keeps you from popping the paint off when you try to line up the holes. Attaching the grill to the horn opening panel is a BEAR! at least a 2 man job. I used all SS bolts and nuts on everything to try to cut down on rust. |
