1934 Ford Cabriolet gas tank issue

I have a 1934 Ford Cabriolet rumble seat coupe. A friend recommended putting Sea Foam Engine Treatment into the gas tank to run better. Few weeks later the engine stopped running and I discovered Sea Foam reacted with the paint in the gas tank (ethanol never bothered the paint) Seems now I have to remove the tank and have it cleaned out. Trying to get an idea how big a project this will be. I’m 75 years old and the eyes aren’t what they used to be!

Raise car on stands under the frame, remove wheels. Remove spare tire carrier, bumper and tail pan, remove small metal covers on both sides of the frame, remove floor plate in trunk that covers the sending unit, remove air line and gas line from sending unit then remove bolts holding the tank and work the tank out to the rear. May have left something out but you should be able to do it.

I have been there and done that. For me it was more cost effective to get a new tank from Drake. The local guys wanted 150.00+ to dip the tank and then I would have to get it resealed. Around 300 bucks total. After that you have your old tank but no telling how long that will last. Just my opinion, some people prefer the OEM Ford tanks.

Sorry for your problems, but I have to be more than a little impressed with the solvent power of Sea Foam. Every fall, I put a pint of it in each car to stabilize the gas. At least I now know what not to do with my gas tanks.

Tricky part is keeping the rubber tank neck to body seal in place when you put the rear panel back over the tank neck, use masking tape inside and out.
