As I recall, the big deal about ATF/Acetone was that in a side by side comparison, the home brew was as good or better than the store bought penetrant at freeing up rusted parts, while the store bought penetrant was far and away more effective at cleaning out that green folding stuff from your Wallet.

I’ve been using Free All for quite some time. I’ve found it to work very well. Diesel mechanic recommended it to me

You know it could be what oil to use in your flathead.

PB Blaster, chased with oxy-atcetylene, finish with a couple more shots of blaster as it cools. Percussion is your friend. Hammer blows or impact wrench. Substitutions are often the rule when town is 24 mile round trip. For instance Mapp gas for oxy-acetylene and Marvel Mystery oil mixed with laquer thinner (shaken, not stirred) but let your nuts cool down before introducing anything with acetone, laquer thinner, volatile solvents onto the heated steel. Ralph, my best piston freeing has been with cylinders filled with diesel fuel, introduce a rolled wick of corregated cardboard. Cook for four hours. I had a roll of 2" by 1/8" lead strip. I unrolled it to 3 1/8" diameter. Laid on piston. Not only were the hammer blows perfectly contoured to the piston crown, but the inertia of the weight of the lead worked wonders. This engine, once honed and new rings installed has been in my woodie wagon for 5 years until I decided to build the stroker. Still a great runner.

I have heard of people using fire in the cylinders to loosen up a piston. Think I even saw a yt video on it but it was a 4 cylinder vertical engine which is a bit easier than the V type. I'm considering turning this flathead upside down on the stand so I can get some penetrating fluid into the cylinders that are stuck at tdc.

On a V8, you fill the valley with charcoal, light it up, and after it gets going, cover it with a proper sized piece of sheet metal. Let it go as long as it wants.
